This bike tour takes place in a region where the waters of the Dordogne, the Garonne River and the Atlantic ocean wed to form the largest estuary in Europe.  Nature, culture, leisure and sports, friendliness and gastronomy are all gathered in a single Cycling Holiday. Marshes, vineyards, forests, rivers, small ports,charming villages, castles, wine estates and churches make up the landscape under the sun of the southwest area! 

Roads and trails are opening the way to other landscapes : the vineyards of the Medoc, Margaux, Gironde Estuary, Upper Gironde, the vineyards of Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Fronsac, the Entre-deux-Mers and the beauties of Bordeaux.

Day 1

Arrival and transfer to Bordeaux in the Medoc
Arrival at the train station or airport of Bordeaux.
Transfer by taxi to the Pian Medoc. Your bike will be delivered as well as the informations about the area and the road book.

Day 2

La “Route des Châteaux” - 35 km
Departing from Pian Medoc to Macau, the chateaux’s road goes alongside the Gironde toward Margaux and Moulis...wine and spirit houses are waiting for you.
You enter the Medocan area which is well known worldwide.
Have a stop in the little ports such as St Julien and imagine that in times past, the “gabares” were rolling on the stream charged with barrels.
This chateaux’s road which crosses the Medoc is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful!
Margaux, Haut-Médoc are some of the most well known Chateaux. The way toward the estuary, without any difficulty offers pleasant and varied landscapes whatever the season. This circuit leads you to the heart of the “Medoc rouge”.

Day 3

Crossing the estuary and the "Route de la Corniche" - 43 or 53 Km
This route takes you to Lamarque where you take a boat to cross the Gironde estuary.
Reach the magnificent citadel of Blaye before continuing your journey on the banks of the estuary. Imposing and majestic, the citadel overlooks the estuary with its 33 hectares in the heart of the city, offering a splendid view over the Gironde.
Pass through the vineyards of the Cotes de Blaye AOC Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur.
Keep on riding towards Bourg-sur-Gironde, along the "Corniche Fleurie", where palm trees, pink laurels and oaks witness of a mild climate.
Bourg sur Gironde is gem for any architecture lovers. Clinging to a rock, surrounded by walls, the village is one of the most beautiful and best preserved of the Estuary.

Day 4

The vineyards of Fronsac, Pomerol and Saint-Emilion - 40 Km
On the road to get to Saint-Emilion vineyards you will ride through two other appellations: Fronsac and Pomerol.
The appellation Pomerol, neighbour of Saint-Emilion, covers a small plateau. This is a small area of great reputation ... The wines of Pomerol are among the most appreciated in France, including the famous "Petrus". Chateau Angelus, Chateau Petrus, Chateau Cheval Blanc are some of the prestigious Bordeaux Châteaux !
Fronsac is the most ancient vineyards of Bordeaux since we this wine was drunk in the court of King Louis XIV ...
At the confluence of two rivers, the Dordogne and Isle, great terroirs of Saint-Emilion, Pomerol and Fronsac marry beautiful landscape of hills and plateaus, which spread like a beautiful mosaic of plots, vines as far as the eye can see.

Day 5

Saint-Emilion! Vineyards, architecture and landscapes - 20 ou 35 km
This circuit between stones and vines, within the jurisdiction of Saint-Emilion will make you travel around old stones and remarkable sceneries. You can reach Castillon la Bataille and return by the bank of the Dordogne River.
Night in the same hotel than the night before.

Day 6

Saint-Emilion - Bordeaux - 50 km
After a ride through Branne on the Dordogne River, you will reach the cycle track "Roger Lapébie" and enjoy the heart of natural landscapes, with several rest stops and water points. You will follow this pleasant track which goes to Creon, a typical bastide village and continue through rich architectural heritage, medieval towns, country houses, fortified mills, abbeys, Roman churches.
This track will take you to the amazing Place de la Bourse in the heart of Bordeaux. You will have an overview of the wharves, the Garonne and the stone bridge you crossed a few minutes ago!
