walking & cycling tours (France)
The Piemont Route also called the Pyrenean Route or Foothill Route is another variant that the pilgrims used to walk to reach Spain.
Our program on this route starts in the unique city of Carcassonne, on the Unesco List, and then goes southwards towards the Pyrenees range along the foothill. The landscape starts with a Mediterranean vegetation and gradually turns into forests and green environment.
During this walk you may not meet many pilgrims as on the Puy Route or the Camino Frances but you will discover the walk off the beaten paths in France.
The accommodation in the villages is simple and friendly in Guest Houses. When the stopover place is a larger city, 3* or 2* hotels are available. You will always occupy rooms with private facilities everywhere.
This walk implies to be able to read map extracts.
A few highlights on your way : Carcassonne on the Unesco List, Saint Lizier Cathedral, Saint Bertrand de Comminges and of course Lourdes and the famous grotto and sanctuaries.
