Camino de Santiago - Vezelay Route / Via Lemovicensis
walking & cycling tours (France)
One of the main routes on the Way of Saint James in France starting in famous Le Vezelay in Burgundy and heading towards Saint Jean Pied de Port, via Bourges, the Cher Valley, the Creuse River and Limousin, the Perigord and the Pinewood forest of Gascony, before reaching the Basque Country, 900 km later.
The part most frequented of this itinerary starts from Le Vezelay and gets to Limoges or Perigueux. After Perigueux the Vezelay Itinerary gradually enters the largest pine-wood forest of Europe for several km and stages.
Then it crosses the Landes department and Bearn area and reaches Ostabat and St-Jean-Pied-de-Port more than 40 days later.
Except the length of a few stages there are no particular difficulties on this itinerary. If you choose this route you will appreciate the peaceful villages and countryside punctuated by larger cities as Bourges, Limoges, Perigueux. Contrarily to the Puy Route, the Vezelay Way is much less frequented and you may walk all day long without meeting another walker !
