This pilgrimage on the Way of Saint James as a self-guided walking experience on the Arles Way, starts from the splendid city of Arles and ends in Puente la Reina in Spain where it joins the Camino Francès in slightly under 1000 kms.

The Arles Route or also known as the Via Tolosana route starts in Provence and Camargue and continues towards Montpellier and Northern Languedoc to Saint Guilhem le Desert and Lodeve. Then it follows westward to Castres and Toulouse and crosses Gascony before reaching the Pyrenean foothill. This route to Santiago de Compostela links the Mediterranean Sea with the Atlantic along the foothill of the Pyrenees.

The main stages of this Camino, Way of Saint James itinerary of France is less frequented than the Puy Route but crosses very interesting places and a great variety of landscapes :Montpellier, Castres, Toulouse, Auch, Oloron-Sainte-Marie, Jaca and past other major historical and geographical landmarks such as the Abbey of St. GIlles du Gard, the former abbey of St. Guilhem le Désert, the Naurouze watershed (on the Canal du Midi), and the Somport pass.
