France - Brittany - self-guided walking from Morlaix to Guisseny

The GR34 continues its way along the coast and the oyster farms, the granite villages and small cities as Carantec and Roscoff.  The boat crossing to Isle de Batz in one day and the Keremma dunes will complete this hike that starts from the stunning Morlaix Bay and its numerous islets.

Day 1

Morlaix
Arrive in the afternoon

Day 2

Morlaix - Carantec
This stage shows the gap between the inland of Brittany and the ports open to the ocean. The link is the river, the lead flowing up and down depending on the daily tides. The Taureau Castle is the guardian of the Bay whereas the lighthouse on the Louet island guides the sailors. The walk continues through the pinewood and the Calot island.
+ 350m – Descent 350 m – 24 km

Day 3

Carantec - Roscoff
Carantec is the point where you can reach Calot island at low tide. The walk crosses a region where rural and maritime aspects gather in Saint Pol de Leon. The Kreisker is the highest gothic tower of Brittany and remains a symbol among the sailors. Before reaching Roscoff you will cross the fields of cauliflowers and artichokes.
Ascent 250m – Descent 250m – 25 km

Day 4

Batz island
A real climatic microcosm of Brittany where the vegetation is a combination of endemic and tropical plants to the East. The white sand of the northern part offers a lagoon-line blue sea, and the heathand covers the western part of the island. Back to Roscoff.
Ascent 150 m – Descente 150 m – 8 km

Day 5

Roscoff - Moguériec
The whole city of Roscoff still lives in the Renaissance granite decor as the belltower of the Church witnesses. Today’s walk along the coast up to the Dossen beach and the tiny port of Moguériec.
Ascent 180m – Descente 180m – 20.5 km

Day 6

Moguériec - Plouescat
From Moguériec you will reach discover another Brittany : the abers area, first modest in Port Neuf, becomes later larges sandy beaches in "Keramiet", "Kerfissien", and finally an area of dunes changing with the wind and tides.et enfin des dunes soumises aux vents et aux marées. After Kerfissien, the Menhir of Cléder looks like a granite belltower amid a larger area of granite rocks.
Ascent 200m - Descente 200m - 24 km

Day 7

Plouescat - Brignogan-Plages
"The dunes are alive” is today’s topic as you walk through the dunes of Keremma, you will observe that they are essential to protect the land from the ocean.
Ascent 120 m – Descente 120m – 20 km

Day 8

Brignogan-Plages - Guissény
Transfer to Brignogan-Plages. This the last hiking day along the wild coastline.
Ascent 150m – Descente 150m – 18 km
